The gap

Accountants using current accounting software still perform repetitive manual tasks like chasing documents, reconciling data between systems, and verifying figures via adding machine tapes due to system limitations and poor integration. These manual workarounds are time-consuming, error-prone, and persist despite software use, indicating a gap in end-to-end automation. Existing products fail to fully eliminate these workflows, creating an opportunity for a solution that intelligently automates document handling, cross-system reconciliation, and direct verification within accounting processes.

“What is everyone using for task management for their teams? Particularly close tasks. We are using excel and I’d like to move away from that and use a system. Thinking about implementing OneStream task manager but I don’t like the user interface.”

“Not a complaint thread about any particular tool. Most of the software we all use is fine for what it was designed to do. I'm more interested in the gap between how a system expects the work to go and how it actually goes. Things like a quote the system would send automatically but someone always checks first, a repeat customer on different terms tracked in a side spreadsheet, or an order that looks standard but needs a phone call before it goes out. Most businesses seem to have a few of these. Some are just habits, but a lot of them exist for a good reason that nobody wrote down. What's yours? And do you know why it started, or has it been there longer than anyone remembers?”

Teams need software that adapts to their actual workflows instead of requiring workarounds like manual checks or side spreadsheets.

“Hello I am looking for some problems software wise that I can solve for people in finance. And it'll be open source so it's not my "million dollar idea" I just want to make something in my free time. I'd be grateful if you guys took some time to tell me what softwares do you use and what annoys you the most in them, any manual work that can be helped with a software. Anything related to bank reconciliation, I'm also open to other rants lol”

Finance professionals seek software solutions to reduce manual work in bank reconciliation, particularly around matching transactions and handling exceptions.
